Let us know how we can do better?

I don't know about everyone else but I would prefer if the Gallery threads that you guys post would automatically default to a slideshow, say 1024 x 1024 and 3 second delay. I think it's the best way to view the gallery of a night personally. But that's just me I guess.

Re: Gallery Posts (Attn: Dan)

The what?

Umm, so within the thread itself there's a slideshow so-to-speak?

Is that what you mean?

Hmm...

1024 x 1024, no way. Too easy for any Tom, Dick, or Harry to steal what we do for print.

I'm not at all opposed to changing how it works once I've got more time to dedicate to TNL development. Which should be soon, the Venue Driver fire is just about lit. Soon it will be time for me to stoke the TNL fire a little more.

New cities here, when that time comes.

Yeah totally. We've got a lot of "organic" fire right now, due to user interaction being way up, but the fire still needs to be refined a bit. Most of yous realize we're still working on this, and have had other things that have taken priority. Except for Club Legend and Coach, they think we've got an outsourced development team somewhere.

Seb, if you can find a concrete example of what you're talking about, that'd help.

Here's one. I like how it gives you options. My favorite is "mosaic", not "slideshow". "grid" is fairly nice too and that's the default. "carousel" is kind of neat.

I was the entire development team until about last week, when I hired two new developers who won't be at full speed for weeks at the earliest. I hired part-timers from Miami and I'm going to train them, when I had the option of hiring an expensive full-time telecommuter with a computer science degree. I hired two TNL members who are both minimal techno nuts. Don't say I never did anything for Miami nightlife.

so what I mean specifically is when you first click on the thread you see the summary of pics for the night, which is cool. When you click on that group of pics it goes to another screen where each individual pic is there. Then you have to click through each one, which I think is a pain. I think it would be better if after clicking the group of pics it defaulted to the slideshow at a somewhat fast speed. That way you could quickly look at pics for the night with out having to set it all up at the right speed and size. I just think its more convenient for avg viewer.

I think I can do that with what we've got. Let me muck about, then gauge user reaction.

Notice I'm not biting your head off. Dade says I'm worse than an overprotective parent when it comes to this site and criticisms thereof.

Dade?

It's in the presentation kids. Ned makes ultimatums, HTM says we're gonna go out of business. Gee, thanks guys.

Muaha.

Honky has been pissing on my work as it launches for at least five years and he would be missed if he were to stop. Ned comes back once a week to tell us it's not interesting enough to keep people coming back. Coach is the crotchety geezer who will bitch about the slightest imperfection, which we need. Site full of sycophants is no use at all. All part of the game.

Re: Gallery Posts (Attn: Dan)

Ned is someone we know, I know it.

Club Legend? Well, he's got the right idea, but sometimes I feel he goes after us if there's no one else to go after. Opium Group needs their bouncers to get angry again, LP needs to crush someone, or a big DJ needs to "switch sides".

Coach? Yeah, he whines like someone twice his age, threatens to leave, and then wanders back inviting us to an event off the very beach he swears he rarely ever leaves.

But I do like the criticisms, if well-presented. I don't need a tugjob from everyone who signs up here (only from a few), so it's usually well-founded, and like I said, we take note of it.

Gallery 2 was a last-minute solution to a gallery that we-kinda-sorta-needed. It was thrown in mainly for me, then we found a viable justification for it. Other than some minor tweaks, nothing much has been worked on in the TNL Gallery since January. So yeah, constructive input to the Gallery is definitely welcome.

We really weren't gonna have a photo gallery here at all, but I kinda did some whining myself for one, and well, here it is.

The photo gallery site is NapkinNights. Not going to cannibalize that. But I do happen to own seenightlife.com in case I ever need to launch another photo gallery site in a hurry. If that happens then the flank bar here would probably link to there. And that's a big part of why there is no "photos" tab at the top of Talk Nightlife, because I have a feeling the photos are going to live somewhere else in the end.
