If I were to complain about all of the nerds posting boring technical articles about computer science to Facebook all of the time, then would that be a statement about Facebook, or about me?

"What is the deal with mirrors lately? They're all so ugly!"

Right and right again.

My Facebook stream has none of what Icon and others have described. Why? Because I don't have those people in my "friends" list. I don't "LIKE" the pages of a bunch of DJs and I don't seek to have thousands of people that I don't know as my "friends."

As Ryan said, my Facebook stream is a reflection of me because I decide what's in it.

Should I complain that Pod posts pictures of his car a lot or that Tech posts pictures of his new baby a lot? No. I like to know what Pod is up to and I'm happy that he's into his car. I love seeing pictures of Ryan's beautiful baby. I chose to have those things in my news stream. If you have skanks with nasty tattoos and kids from one night stands in your news stream.....you did that shit to yourself.

I bitch about oversharing and whatnot, but only from a security perspective and a "cranky old man" perspective. Oversharing is dangerous, kids. Not everyone's a happy party crasher like me.

However, I do use the tools at hand to manage the information flow. I actually like the "best friends" feature FB deployed. It prioritizes friends you have marked as such. So, like I have Dade, Tech, and a few others marked, and the rest set on ignore or "no status".

FB is very badly written. It takes up a lot of system resources and it's not getting any better. If Tech wrote like that he'd be out of a job. But at least their list management tools are OK.

Twitter is svelte and to the point, and they'll need to add some management/prioritization tools at some point if they want to really compete.

FB is like the mall, you kind of got to be there if you want to know what is going on.

It's much like the old argument from on here when HTM posts stuff the dance music faithful doesn't want to hear. We have primitive friend/foe features. Friend does nothing. Probably never will. Foe is actually useful. Foe lets you ignore anyone you don't like. As far as I know, only musicalmissionary ever put HTM on ignore.

Maybe I'll talk about this at that social media conference tomorrow.

Again...you decide what you share and what you don't. I'm constantly amazed when I hear people complain about Facebook's policies or about being concerned about their privacy. If you don't want people to see the pictures, keep them off Facebook. Don't want people to have that information? Don't put it on Facebook. Why is that so hard for people to get.

Also, I find it really strange to whine constantly about something you use and get for free.

Whatever. I click the mouse and it does what it's supposed to.

If you use Chrome, go chrome://memory when on Facebook after a few minutes. Ask your development team if that number is acceptable. Sure it works, but it hogs a lot of resources for what it does.

And yeah, to keep it on topic, even creaky old TNL has management/block features. People just choose not to use them, regardless of how often you tell them they are there. On FB, the minute someone gets to be a little "too much", I screen them out. It's quite nice.

On newer computers the resource-hogness of Facebook is less of an issue, but yeah, it is ridiculously bloated.

The issue is on the phone. I use Twitter a lot on my phone, to communicate and see what is up with my peeps. Facebook, I barely open that crap on my phone. It is so slow.
