David Guetta about to break Michael Jackson's record...

Dance music producer and DJ David Guetta is chasing down the late Michael Jackson's Thriller. The French Grammy-winner's track with Sia, "Titanium" (listen below), has charted on the Billboard Dance/Club list for 28 weeks, making it the longest-charting dance song in nearly three decades.

Billboard stats mean about as much as social networking stats. It's all overblown ego-stroking compromised by payouts. Wake me up when he has a career similar to MJ's.

Imagine if Michael Jackson had iTunes, Beatport, Rhapsody, Pandora, Spotify, Internet Radio, Amazon MP3, iPod, etc. etc. etc.

So, while this maybe a big Hoorah for David Guetta... with today's music distribution technology compared to back then... it is comparing apples to oranges because Michael Jackson's Thriller would have sold a shitload more using today's music technology.

Back then you only had FM Radio and MTV to promote music... nowadays you have several MTV's, Facebook, Google+, Pinterest, Millions of music based websites, thousands of record pools, Google, Bing, YouTube, Myspace Music, Internet Radio, etc etc promoting music.

Great point Icon. That is why I dont pay attention to the #1 Billboard Singles or Album Charts anymore. If a record is broken then it cannot be compared to past albums or singles when less media outlets were available for artist to display their music to the public.

Sorry guys but I think if the technology that we have today would
have been around in the 80's, then Michael Jackson wouldn't have
sold a ton of records. He would've been illegally downloaded like
crazy though. I doubt people would have paid for his music back
then if they could've gotten it for free.

Can you provide an album that could be played from start to finish like the Thriller album in the last 5 Years?

You have to realize that only 3 or 4 tracks of that album were selected as singles. If the record company would of wanted they could of released 5 to 7 tracks from that album as singles.

Can you imagine the amount of money in singles, ringtones that the album would of generated. Even with folks stealing music that record would be huge, compared to any album out there.

You are right. They were 7 singles. Can you provide an album these days that is worth purchasing that had as many hits as that album?

Level I listen to rock music, I don't pay attention to pop.
I couldn't care less about artists like Usher, Chris Brown,
Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears Justin Bieber, or
Justin Timberlake.
