Re: Any new "cheap eats" in SOBE worth recommending?
Cannelle update...
I'm sorry to say it, but Cannelle has jumped the shark. Pretty depressing after only being open a few months.
The bread is fresh... but they do not always have the ciabatta advertised on their menu. The other plus is the fresh juices. The orange, lime, grapefruit combo is deliciously refreshing!
Unfortunately, the positive points end there. The selections are regrettably boring. Sandwiches, salads and juices, but no unique ingredients. Not even any proscuitto or salami in sight. Special dressing? Still advertised, but still not present (though requested).
Moving on to the quality of the food, I was disappointed to taste white American cheese in lieu of the Provolone I had requested on my sammy. Upon further inspection, it was confirmed. Imposter!
The service is friendly enough but the time it took to receive my orders was not proportionate to the product I received. The inside of the restaurant looks clean in the front but the back and bathroom reveal a different story. It smells like mildew in there and the trash was full at noon - not a good sign as anyone who has worked in the restaurant industry can tell you.
One slice of turkey, a cheap piece of processed cheese, two slices of cucumber and too much mayo all sloppily strewn about make a good sandwich not. Especially when a delectable sounding list of toppings is advertised and requested.
I regret having to say such negative things about Cannelle, but I don't want TNL'ers to waste their time. I gave this casual cafe two chances but with abundant options in the area, I can't in good conscience give it any more.
