Please keep in mind that Coach and I actually are from the Deep South while you're trying to whitewash the bigotry there. Your last post proves conclusively that you have not personally experienced the Deep South. They LOVE blacks there! They LOVE gays there! That's why there are still places in Mississippi fighting the evil feds on gay marriage -- they LOVE those homos too much to let them go to Hell.

I guess Coach moving from Texas to Florida was an example of a 'person seceding from Texas'? As opposed to Texas seceding from the Union?

If they want to be backwards, let them. You guys moved out for a reason. No one appointed you the enforcers of tolerance.

Yes, I'm saying - tolerate their intolerance. Not your problem. Worry about Techjunkie. Worry about Coach. Don't worry about the South.

The truth hurts.

Paul Joseph Watson wrote:Were you a Remain campaigner? Are you sore about the referendum result? Check out these 10 top self-comforting strategies.

1.) Call every white person who voted Leave a "racist", ignoring the fact that Europeans are also white. Make sure you ignore and marginalise ethnic minority leave voters.

2.) Claim that the (huge) turnout wasn't high enough. 72%? It should have been at least 75%! 80%? It should have been 85%! Make sure to keep moving the goalposts.

3.) Make a stupid e-petition demanding another referendum, just like the socialists did when Labour lost last year. We need to keep having referendums until we get the "right" result.

4.) Get over-excited about the economy, even if the impact has been pretty boring and mundane. Pretend that your 2:2 in English Literature makes you an expert on currency markets.

5.) Attack the very idea of Democracy, because it's only a good thing when it goes the way you want it to. Working class voters don't know what's good for them, but middle class liberals definitely do.

6.) Share memes bashing Brexit, ignoring the unwelcome and uncomfortable realisation that you are in the minority of public opinion.

7.) Boldly claim that Scotland will leave the UK, forgetting that A) they can't afford to B) the EU can't afford to take them C) 1.6m remain votes don't cancel out 2m NO votes.

8.) Make fun of Boris Johnson while sweating slightly and really hoping he doesn't become Prime Minister.

9.) Learn absolutely nothing from the campaign, blaming the result on everyone but yourself. Scaremongering and bullying are clearly the best tactics to use, there's no way they could possibly backfire.

10.) Curl up in a ball and cry yourself to sleep while listening to "Ode to Joy".

If France says it's okay and they want to move there, why stand in their way?

Agreed. If France will take them, don't impede the youth from effecting their own Brexit.

Some people get off on bureaucracy. I don't understand it, but if that's what floats their boat, the EU should welcome them with open arms.

Can I worry about the people being dragged to their death by racists in the South? Or fuck them? I mean, if some white guy wants to drag a black to his death, what business is it of yours? Murder is okay as long as their not murdering any of your family and friends, right?

Re: Brexit vote is today

You act like it's a war zone there. I dispute that claim. So does Ms Pod, and she actually lived there, just like you.

Yes, shit happens, and that's sad, but getting huffy about it from behind your keyboard and demanding that your pals in government "do something" isn't gonna solve it.

There's always going to be hateful people in this world. No amount of legislation is going to fix that. All that does is whoosh it under the rug. People will still do hateful shit. You can't break thousands of year of human behavior with the stroke of some bureaucrat's pen a thousand miles away.

Lead by example. Show people how leading a tolerant life is a happy and successful life. Don't tell them to live that life at gunpoint though. You might despise them, you might even want to see them dead (sidebar - I find it funny when I read those "Being Liberal" pages on FB, half the time the commenters want to kill the people they don't like...) but you actually don't really have any right to demand (by force of law) that they change their ways, even if you disagree with them. Racism sucks, but if someone wants to be racist, let them foam at the mouth and be such. Yes, their right to racism ends when they physically assault someone else or touch their property, but if they just wanna hang out on Stormfront, there's nothing you can do about it. And no, there's no special legislation needed to address racially-motivated crimes. If you hurt or kill someone, that's a crime already and you should probably be put away for that. No "flexibility" or exceptions. If you commit intentional murder most foul (regardless of motivation), down you go. There should be no plea bargains, etc. Whether the vic was white, black, gay, Asian, or whatever, you're done. For life. Whether that includes execution is another discussion.

The issue I see today is that people are willing to abrogate their basic rights in the name of having a "safe space". Did you know that a scary percentage of college kids believe that their "right" to not be offended supersedes the 1st Amendment?

But we're getting off course. Is there a larger propensity of racial behavior in the South? Yes, of course there is. But I don't think overreaching legislation is the solution to stamping it out. Nor do I suspect racial policies would come back into force with less federal control.

You do know there's liberals in the South, right? I should know, I'm marrying one. She's not terribly unusual either for our age group. Our little Thanksgiving party in Georgia had the whole spectrum. Lefties, righties, Latins, whites, and even lesbians. Everyone got along. We didn't lynch anyone, as far as I know.

This is all just pointless rambling though. Someone once told me that you'll never change anyone's mind by ranting on a website.

The South was literally a war zone where blacks were killed with impunity -- until the federal government got involved. So that was maybe not the best example for advancing your position.

Re: Brexit vote is today

I doubt the sweet old federal government went in out of any sense of goodness. There's always an ulterior motive. The Feds went in as a further extension of consolidating the idea and power of a highly-centralized government. If you think a politician has goodness in their hearts, you are sorely mistaken. It takes a special kind of sociopath to want to be in that scene.

Going in and restoring order was a simple means of gathering popular support for the party in power at the time. Not to say the opposing party wouldn't have done the same thing. Two wings, same bird.

It's apocryphal and probably not accurate, but Johnson did have something to say about civil rights and increasing the popularity of him and his party.

With regards to Brexit, it's not like the sweet old EU was trying to "help" the British become more "civil" or whatever. It was and always has been a naked power grab to enrich the fortunes of the Eurocrats and their industrial partners. 453 rules on toilet paper. Someone's making money off of that...
