This I know. However, if 10000000 fart apps can make it into the App Store, I'm sure an app streaming video content, except porn, will be A-OK for tvOS...

And yes, there's Airplay, and jailbreaking.

I understand you guys sweat Apple at every turn, but the Apple TV will never succeed or catch on if Apple doesn't start producing original programming. They are behind on Netflix and Hulu in that regard.

They can create as many apps as they want, but the Networks will create their own app for their viewers. Apple is probably the biggest lobbyist in Hollywood and I am sure they can use their power to either buy or bring back a successful show to be viewed exclusively on Apple TV.

Level, that's what I'm saying. The networks will create apps for Apple TV. HBO already has, and they had a 3 month exclusive with Apple when their app (HBO Now) launched.

Even with that exclusive deal. The Apple TV has not caught on

There are more people interested in Hulu and Netflix due to the original programming. Apple has a long way to go still

Re: Vice getting its own Cable Channel "Viceland"

You're not following. I'm talking about the Apple TV device, not the iTunes rental/subscription service.

On the Apple TV device you can get programming via apps from:

HBO
Showtime
ESPN
Netflix
Hulu

and many more.

Via the iTunes rental/subscription service, all the major studios and networks provide content. Now, the deal is that usually the shows are delayed, i.e. Sunday's episode of The Walking Dead doesn't show up until Monday, but the content is there.

Is Apple TV a popular device? Sure. It's not selling like an iPhone, but the last-gen models are under $70 now, so it's almost in 'impulse buy' territory. And with tvOS, the platform just got a lot better.

apple-tv-sales-per-year-estimate-apple-tv_chartbuilder.png

Apple TV generated more than $1 billion in hardware and content sales last fiscal year, CEO Tim Cook just revealed. That makes Apple TV the company’s fastest-growing product, according to estimates by analyst Horace Dediu.

Reaching 10 million units, total, is generally considered to be the make-or-break point for the viability of a new platform. The Sony Playstation and the XBox passed 10 million and are now viable platforms. The Atari Jaguar and the 3DO did not. Apple is now selling 10 million units per year, and rising. So in less than a year, the new Apple TV will be permanently entrenched as Apple's answer to Microsoft and Sony's consoles. And anybody who has both a PS4 and an Apple TV knows that the Apple TV is a hell of a lot easier to use. The PS4 UI was obviously designed by Japanese people.

If you're a content provider, then you can make one piece of software that you can package for Apple TV, iPhone and iPad, for delivering your content. Compelling, compared to the idea of making a PS4 and/or XBox app for distributing the same content. Content providers like Vice are going to target Apple TV first before those others.

Even with those sales figures, which are backed from a Pro-Apple Site (I am using the common Pod response in regards to Republican/Democratic articles), Amazon & Roku accounted for 86% of sales in that market. This is according to Forbes

Roku is not a platform with an app distribution system. Fire TV is, but the Apple TV app ecosystem will crush it within weeks.

PS4 and XBox are the real competition for Apple TV now. Not Chromecast, Fire TV or Roku.
