Catalonia gets to vote on independence on November 9th

On to the next one....

Catalonia's parliament has voted overwhelmingly in favour of giving its regional president the power to call an independence "consultation".

The move comes a day after Scotland voted against independence from the United Kingdom.

Scotland voted "no", but I knew it was gonna start a trend. All these semi-autonomous republics in Europe are now gonna have a go at it. Watch Sicily try to break away from Italy.

If i was texas I would strongly consider it; they have their own power grid, have access to ports, a centrally located strong economy, and are leaders in the shale energy revolution here in the U.S.

It is dangerous to be right in matters on which the established authorities are wrong.

Now leaving the fact that Washington would dispatch the military to stop it, yes, they could. Often a lot of the "progressives" wish Texas would leave the Union, then I point out to the progressives that they themselves made it impossible for a state to secede.

Also, Texas gets a bad rap. I'm heavily biased because Ms Pod is from Dallas and I had the pleasure of meeting her Texas family a few months back. Top-to-bottom hospitality and friendliness from them and everyone else I met. No one cared I was a half-breed from Jersey living in Miami. I'm sure the "old" Texas exists still, but certainly not in the DFW area. And yeah, I suppose the fact that I can strip an M4 in my sleep and have good minute-of-bad-guy groupings at 100 meters helps!

Texas is also a net donor to the federal budget.

Polls show that 80% of people in the region of 7.5 million want the chance to vote on secession. Unlike London, Madrid has refused to entertain any kind of consultation on independence. Analysts point out that Madrid has more to lose – the wealthy north-eastern region of Catalonia is home to about 16% of the Spanish population and accounts for nearly one-fifth of Spain's GDP.

Spain had a civil war that lasted many years, I honestly don't see anything happening here with votes or the powers of Madrid going in that direction.
Almost 55% of Scottish said no, great waste of time that was.

Ms Pod and I had a Scottish waiter for lunch this past weekend. He would have voted "no", only because he figured Scotland would have wrecked itself if it became independent. He didn't like feeling that way but it was the reality for him.

In true Scottish fashion, he was out at a bar on Thursday and got into a fight with an Englishman over the issue.

"He hit me in the face.." (say it in Scottish for effect)

That's why they voted NO, there wasn't any concrete plans of what were the next steps as a nation, let alone be off the GB umbrella.

True. The idealist in me wanted them to break away and "figure it out as they went along", but realistically I knew it wouldn't happen. Yes, I'm aware they wanted to basically start up a socialist nation up there, but I'm a fan of self-determination. If Scots want socialism, so be it. I don't live there.
