They've been talking about it a lot on WLRN and the various public news shows they license. I still think they are underplaying it, but they talk about it often.

Re: Something is rotten in Venezuela

Punking those hipsters was funny I guess, but FYI there is extreme income inequality in Venezuela that gets worse every day as inflation continues to skyrocket. Simply because some people have access to American dollars, and some people don't.

One of my best developers escaped from Venezuela to Spain recently, but before she did she was earning over seven thousand times more than most of the people around her in Maracaibo.

The latest increase brings Venezuela's minimum wage to 97,531 bolivars a month. That's equivalent to $12.53.

I was paying her $90k USD then, so she was earning 7,183 times as much as the Venezuelan minimum wage.

The minimum wage in Florida is currently $8.10. To make 7,183 times more than that, you would have to make about $116 million USD per year. Not that many people make that much money in the US. But lots of people get paid in dollars in Venezuela in one way or another.

That's why there is a significant upper class who don't have to wait in food lines. And who don't have to worry about the availability of corn meal or toilet paper or whatever. They shop in stores with fresh seafood and olive bars and fine wine.

TLDR: The Bolivarian socialists have inadvertently created a privileged upper class through currency manipulation, in the name of fairness and equality for all.
