Re: Why do people become terrorists?

If you look back through this thread you'll see how Shaun can't discuss terrorism because he's obsessed with the word "terrorist". A Taoist lesson if I've ever seen one.

Harry Reid has said that Bundy's supporters are full-fledged terrorists.
America is in the middle of a war on terror
Suspected terrorists are routinely elimininated using drones
Therefore, Bundy's supporters should have been killed by drones.

The logic is sound.

I didn't miss the point. The point was stupid so I tried to have a real conversation about the actual subject but, as usual, you have no desire to do that and went right back to your stupid point.

The actual subject of this thread is, "why do people become terrorists". It has nothing to do with Bundy situation except for the fact that Harry Reid just so happened to label protesters associated with the situation as terrorists. Your response is a rant about how stupid Bundy is. Talk about off-subject and completely irrelevant to the point. If you were to look back at the Slammer's posts in this thread, you'd understand the context better.

I'd rather stick needles in my eyes.

Those are examples of me using the word "definition" (out of almost 10,000 posts, you're going to find a few) whereas this thread is an example of Shaun focusing so much on the definition that he's forgotten about the concept.

Re: Why do people become terrorists?

I don't think they have much of a really choice. Plus the word Terrorists is a label that is only means what you are conditioned to associate with EVIL+BAD+BE SCARED+FEAR, but otherwise, terrorism has proved controversial. Various legal systems and government agencies use different definitions of terrorism in their national legislation. Moreover, the international community has been slow to formulate a universally agreed, legally binding definition of this crime. These difficulties arise from the fact that the term "terrorism" is politically and emotionally charged.

It's just a title to give super-powers justifiable reason to commit crimes. Murder/Manslaughter? same difference..

Yeah we're catching up to you. Welcome to five days ago:

With a cartoon from months ago.

So you're still preoccupied with semantics. Meanwhile, the latest homegrown terrorist has explained his motivations, saying that he wanted to one-up the white supremacists who just sat around talking on the Internet instead of really doing something. He wanted to be the envy of the skinhead community.

TechJunkie wrote:The big-picture issue here is that if terrorists like the Boston bombers are motivated by the desire to be a part of something, rather than the advancement of political goals, then the country in general did the wrong thing this week in response. The enormous news coverage and the overwhelming law enforcement response both serve to glorify their actions. The next potential homegrown terrorist will envy and possibly emulate the brothers who captivated the whole country for a whole week. Not because they were effective at freeing Chechnya or advancing Islam or killing infidels or whatever, but because they were effective at becoming famous and becoming the envy of the jihadist community.
