The German bank Sparkasse Chemnitz recently launched a Karl Marx credit card. The bank let people vote online for 10 different images, and Marx was the "very clear winner," beating out a palace, a castle and a racetrack, among others. Reuters has more on the story.

A GERMAN savings bank issues a credit card with Karl Marx's face in it....why not? All irony aside, the guy is like a famous German national, no biggie right?

According to the story the design was voted in by the customers. Though one could say it technically is of this specific bust of Marx, and not of Marx himself, since the bust itself is an icon of the old East Germany.

From 10 May 1953 to 21 June 1990, Chemnitz was named Karl-Marx-Stadt

That's probably why it has a Karl Marx bust or image on the card. Makes sense.

You do know, I spent a year studying in Germany back in the mid 90's? Germany is awesome. Spent time in Berlin way before all the sweaty techno hipsters decided it was cool to go live there. Back then it was warehouses and dirty in some of the least built up areas, very much like I image Russia to be, grey buildings and graffiti everywhere.

Exactly. What better way to commemorate a philosopher whose ideas caused the enslavement of man then by placing his face on a piece of plastic that has further contributed to the enslavement of man.

It is what usually happens when a person has his/her head up their ass.
