10 "Manliest" Cities in America

this list will make Icon very happy.

How do you rate manliness, you ask? You give points for professional sports teams, monster truck rallies, registered full-size pickup trucks, steak houses, sports bars, and the percentage of households subscribing to man-gazines (Maxim, Playboy, Popular Mechanics, you get it.) You get points taken away for foreign-made cars, cafes and coffee shops, "modern" male apparel stores, and per household subscriptions to girlie magazines like Martha Stewart Living and Vogue. New York, quite obviously, does not make the list. See who does after the jump.

10. Charlotte, NC
9. Cleveland, OH
8. Toledo, OH
7. St. Louis, MO
6. Houston, TX
5. Birmingham, AL
4. Nashville, TN
3. Memphis, TN
2. Columbia, SC
1. Oklahoma City, OK

Hi-fucking-larious. You know, this is one list I totally agree with.

Okay, I don't really agree with Miami at #36. Should be more like #811.

Re: 10 "Manliest" Cities in America

I'd say you have to be pretty "manly" to survive in Miami. The crime rate alone makes it interesting.

Actually, those cities they list are easy living. It isn't too likely that you will get shot at, eaten, or robbed in Oklahoma City. Those cities are cities of boys. The residents of those fine burgs would probably piss themselves the minute they saw a person who wasn't white or "Carltonized" down here.

Hell, case in point, on my way home from Jive tonight, I kicked on the police scanner and heard:

2 domestic disputes
1 attempted B&E
1 report of shots being fired
2 car accidents
1 foot chase (officers on foot in pursuit of suspect)
1 request for aviation unit (ghetto bird)

All of this within a mile or so of where I was. I drove by one of those scenes and saw the officers pulling up. Dumb idea on my part but fun in a way. Manly, if you will.

That list isn't the most manly; it's the most redneck.

Being stupid white trash does not make you a man.

Just because you like to suck dick doesn't mean that you should hate on cities that are basically anti gay.

The oddest thing about most of those cities is that they have a high number of incidents with regards to people whom are on the down low. They are anti-gay because they are ashamed of their own behavior, as it were.

Oh, and while I slept, there was another ruckus nearby that demanded the ghetto bird.

If every grocery store stopped providing food, 90% of Miami would be dead in weeks. Everyone will wish they were a "redneck" if society were ever to collapse.

Re: 10 "Manliest" Cities in America

Not quite true. Most "rednecks" are rural in name only. Farming and agriculture is only practiced by less than 2 percent of the population these days. Most rednecks are as reliant on technology and modern food distribution as anyone in an urban setting. Very few people could even maintain a basic herb garden, regardless of their location or lifestyle. Rednecks cruise around in F150s decked out with the latest in GPS, entertainment systems, and automatic transmissions. They use iPhones, the internet, and have numerous flat screens in their McMansions, which have little to no space dedicated to gardening or agricultural pursuits. Your average subdivision in Huntsville looks like Kendall. The classic "mountain man" redneck is largely a thing of the past. Hell, the situation in the agricultural industry is so dire that the government will pay you to go to school to learn the trade. Redneck guys are as "metro" as most others, they just speak with a different accent, wear different brands, and listen to different music.

The irony is that I live in Miami and the landlord of my building actually maintains a functional garden which produces food items. And I'm sure if I asked, I could probably maintain a small plot to grow my own food as well. And there's some guys fishing right now a hundred feet away from me.

Oh, and I like my foreign-made car, thank you very much!
