We do not need any more of these scam schools... They waste tax payer money... I was reading an Iama on reddit a few months back, there was an out of work director who use to make a lot of money doing commercials, he spoke about how the field is dead as so many kids are graduating from film school thus they pay them virtually nothing to film these commercials. NY Times did a piece on a new film school opening at a university, they never ever had that many students apply to a new major in the history of the school. It's flooded... Plus just look at the tuition costs of the top 20 film schools, on avg they are outrageous.

The world doesn't need more film directors, animators, lawyers, architects.... I'm glad you are excited but to me I just see another instance of our tax payers dollars being wasted on kids who will be saddled with huge debt and a shitty 3 year degree that allows them to get coffee for some executive.

Please tell us in your own words....what you think we need more of..? What are the jobs of the future that will not leave the next generation deeply in debt with fruitful and fulfilling careers.

Last time I checked....film/video/animation was the latest and greatest next big thing to be suggested for content fulfillment. Nobody reads anymore...now with all the screens available worldwide and the planned screens to come....there will be a demand for content to fill these screens.

There has always been a significant percentage of students who never follow a career path in their major and this trend will continue.

I agree with the school part....for me.... technology trumpets it all...Digital Domain is the force behind tupac hologram :)

They also have a campus in Port St Lucie which is sweet.... I see it as a Win Win for everyone....I wish FSU was in West Palm Beach when I went to FSU....who knows maybe I would have pursued Media

Swank, what the United States needs is more programmers, developers and software engineers.

Tech, what the hell is the difference between a programmer, a developer and a software engineer?

Agreed...and so my question is why are not any more students aspiring to be programmers, developers and software engineers? Why is India so recognized for Software Engineers...it can't be just because of cheaper labor....these guys/gals are brilliant and do the work 4 times as fast as we do here in North America without bitching and complaining.

Software development is and always will be somewhat experimental...and maybe that's what we can't wrap our heads around?

If I had the skill and the time I'd become a welder... Huge huge huge money and tons of work, so much work they beg these guys to stay on. You can earn $60/a hour all day every day and work your own hours. My brother is an electrician, he prints money and is by far one of the youngest (37) licensed in the State of NJ, young people avoid these jobs.

Re: Stoked this is coming to my city.....

agreed.

When I was younger...I had to be 'coerced' into finishing school because I wanted to get out there so bad...and I can remember my father telling me...if you don't like university then pick up a skill/trade something you can do with your hands.

At the time it was the most ridiculous thing I'd ever heard....I didn't want to get dirt under my fingernails....but in retrospect when I look back now. The few friends that I knew in construction/plumbing/electrician/landscaping etc. Those who stuck to it are doing just fine now.....25yrs later. But I guess anything that you stick at for that long will do well. And now they don't get their hands dirty.

My father is one of those guys who knows how to do just enough of everything and he is a mechanical engineer.

There might be a secret sub-section of youth who want to go back to learning trades.

And yes...welders make great money but so do the guys who scrape barnacles off the side of cruise ships.....the job's not for everyone.

Plumbers. All the plumbers I know make serious money.

I don't think that there's a teacher or guidance counselor in the U.S, today that would say "little johnny, you should go to trade school and learn a high dollar trade"

The bulk of our educational system seems to be aimed at getting kids to take out tens of thousands of dollars in student loans so that they can get an office job that pays ten dollars an hour.
