Precisely. I'm not sure what the arrangement was for the six people who were responsible for Instagram, but if they all had shares in the company, they are very well-off right now. To be honest if I was one of them and I just got that windfall I'd immediately leave the firm and spend the rest of my days enjoying life. Sailing or something. Take my money and leave, because in the long run, it's not gonna end up as a good thing.
Like the Giz article said, the acquisition of a smaller company by a larger one usually doesn't end well for the people in the smaller company over the long run. I know because I went through it with some friends of ours. Everything was peachy for a few years then it went to shit.
