No, that's very different. If they sought those trademarks so that they could make money from it, that's a profit motive. If they did it to stop others from profiting from their son's death, that is not a profit motive.

I have no idea what led them to take that action but, given my experience on the subject, I just find it very hard to believe that they intend to make money from their child's death.
