In what way did this affect the players or competition on the field? It is horrible and tragic, yes, but taking away the program is nonsense. Everyone involved will pay the price. The students who had nothing to do with it have no price to pay.
I understand what you're saying however word on the street is this had been going on way longer than 1998. OJ Mcduffie said there were rumors of this happening when he was there, and that's when Sandusky was running the defense. Of course this isn't the equivalent of paying for players, this is far worse. This is a coach using his position as a leader at this institution and taking advantage of children. Not only that, but the head coach (Paterno) knew about this, and didn't say a peep, nor did anyone of the higher ups. This is far far worse than paying for players, and a program that allows something this despicable to happen deserves to be eradicated.
