The last stand of human gaming.

Facebook Aims Its AI at the Game No Computer Can Crack

In the mid-’90s, a computer program called Chinook beat the world’s top player at the game of checkers. Three years later, to much fanfare, IBM’s Deep Blue supercomputer won its chess match against reigning world champion Gary Kasparov. And in 2011, another IBM machine, Watson, topped the best humans at Jeopardy!, the venerable TV trivia game show. Machines can now beat the best humans at a wide range of games traditionally held up as tests of intellect, from Scrabble to Othello. But there’s one notable pastime where we humans still come out on top: the game of Go [the Eastern version of chess].

If anybody cares, deep learning is a variant of machine learning, which is the technology that powers nearly every interesting new technological feature lately. From Google Photos to Apple Music to Twitter Moments. It closely relates to the twin themes of representation and belief that cause so much confusion in this forum.

I'm pretty sure that the moment that I decided to marry my wife was when she completely decimated me at a game of Go at a cafe on our first date.

Well, so much for that. We're finished.

Professional Human “Go” Player Defeated By a Computer For the First Time

The news comes just a few days after artificial intelligence pioneer Marvin Minsky passed away at the age of 88.

“I would have loved to hear how surprised he would have been,” Silver said, adding that most of Minsky’s contemporaries hadn’t anticipated such a development would be possible until the year 2025 or 2030.

There is a moment in the first episode of the Clone Wars animated series when a battle droid with terrible shooting apologizes by saiyng, "What can I say, it's my programming!"

Whoever wrote that didn't quite get how this works. It was actually poor training.

Maybe when it wins then Pod will finally give up on the idea that he can drive a car better than a computer?

Nah probably not.

I'm sure the computer can drive better than me. I just want the option to turn it off. Luke switched off his targeting computer.
