Yep, BTW closed months ago toward the end of summer. My daughter and I were really sad about it. Their burrito was even better than the original Lime burrito and when BTW closed it was the end of a decade and a half of fantastic panini burritos off of that same grill. (Their burgers and stuff sucked and were just a waste of menu space.) Toward the end we often ate there all by ourselves in an empty restaurant so I knew that the end was coming. That's when I invoked my Restaurant Rule #1: If you like a restaurant then go there a lot because they might be closed next week.
The new thing is related to a larger Chick-Fil-A sandwich trend:
I still do not understand why they shuttered Lime. Every time we went, it was busy with locals. Everybody like the casual south beachy atmosphere. Why did they think there was any desire for a pretentious place, aside from possibly the success of Bodega? (Is Bodega succeeding?) I mean, if they wanted to add a full liquor bar, just add it to Lime.
50 Eggs is in the business of developing new hospitality brands, not catering to South Beach locals. Catering to South Beach locals is secondary. They're just the the tastemaker beta testers in the process, not the goal.
I'm just saying, they replaced a busy restaurant with an empty one and it died. Seems like they should be in the business of delighting customers and making piles of cash, but I mean, if they want to spend their money "innovating", that is their decision.
