Celebrity Hipster Chocolatiers Reportedly Sold Remelted Commercial Chocolate
Mast Brothers Chocolate, the Brooklyn craft-chocolate company whose expensive, beautifully wrapped bars are a staple of the Whole Foods checkout aisle, may not be all it appears to be. According to a Dallas food blogger, whose reporting was picked up by Quartz on Thursday, the two eponymous Brooklyn brothers behind the company allegedly lied about the provenance of their “bean to bar” chocolate since the beginning of their careers, when they purportedly melted down mass-produced chocolate and resold it as Fancy Hipster Chocolate, winning the adulation of culinary elites like Thomas Keller and coverage in this magazine.
