Looks like we have another person that was not invited on the way. :?

As of right now, Maria is going nowhere near the mainland US. However, Puerto Rico is going to take this Cat 5 storm full force.

Part of me finds this hard to believe and I want to raise the 'fake news' flag.

If this happened to me I would be taking pictures, taking the name of the compliance officer, and letting them know that they would be publicly shamed on the internet.

Tax dollars should not be going to bullshit code compliance immediately after a storm...

Given that practice run, it's gonna be really bad when we actually get smacked by a real hurricane.

I identified several key weaknesses in my planning, most of which are human-factor related.

• Rationing. 3 weeks worth of food on paper becomes 1 week worth of food when you fail to police consumption. It sucks, but if you're the point man in a SHTF scenario, you gotta be a dick and tell people not to eat as much. 1200 cal/day or less if needed.

• Fuel management. That full tank of gas (or full charge of battery) dwindles fast when you have to run out to the store for the fifth time because you forgot something. We had a lot of stuff stashed away, but little items were remembered haphazardly and we had to keep going out for them. On the flipside, you can have a frank discussion on whether you really need sandbags, for example.

• Boredom. Unless it's the ZA, you need something to occupy your mind that doesn't rely on batteries.

And if you really want to round out your SHTF kit.

Re: Irma

Regarding rationing, remember that 1200 Cal/Day is not enough to fight the ZA on. It's probably more than enough if all you are doing is sitting around sweating waiting for the electricity to come on, but if you are preparing for a real SHTF, you better budget for at least 2000 Cal/Day.

Regarding gas, bikes are your friends. Can also be used to generate electricity in a pinch.

Re: Irma

2K a day with heavy activity, yes. But one can function adequately on 1200 if needed.

The bike trick is nifty - looked into it.
