Did the city slap down Dream?
Wayne S. Noches wrote:The City is cracking down on lots of stuff that affects nightlife that people don't realize. Example:
1) The City just revoked Table 8's "Accessory Use" permit for their outdoor bar due to noise.
2) The Planning Board has TWICE refused to approve the transfer of Ink to its new owners. The board's staff AND the Planning Director both told the new board members that this transfer was a very routine event and that everything in the application was fine, but the board refused to approve it. One of the reasons given was that the application was "hand-written" and "messy."
3) As of 10 minutes ago at Dream...
"Due to New and Unexpected Code Enforcement by the Miami Beach Fire Marshall The Chat Noir Club has been forced to postpone our show until next week."
That notice went out exactly 2-hours and 15-minutes prior to the Monday night opening. (tonight)
I had a feeling changes were coming.

I don't have any insider information but it looks like the Code Enforcement division cracked down on Dream after they had a disagreement over a noise violation on Friday night:

Description pd advised of loud music coming from the club dream at that qth. complainant was an 80 year old resident.call back info:maria 305-XXX-XXXX Received a complaint from dispatch @ 11:31 Friday June 06, 2008 for loud music coming from Dream nightclub. This establishment is located at 1532 Washington Avenue. I, 725 arrived on scene @ 11:53 AM, upon arrival I immediately heard excessively loud bass coming from the club. I then checked the level of the bass on the east side of Washington Ave and the bass was audible over the heavy street traffic and the boisterous pedestrians on the sidewalk. I prepared the 1st Written Warning and spoke to Brandon Kraese. I asked Mr. Kraese for ID and he stated he did not have any ID on him and gave me his business card. He signed the Written Warning @ 12:05 AM. I explained he had 15 minutes to comply. I then explained the Noise Ordinance to him. He asked me to accompany him to the outside back of the building, where he insisted that the music was not loud. I again explained that the sound from his club is for his patron and should not excape the chamber in which it is being played. The excessive bass was clearly excaping the structure in front of the establishment, the north side of the establishment, 100 feet across to the east side of Washington Avenue as well as the rear of the property. I left the scene @ 12:

Description Trash, holes in ceilings and walls, stagnant water at rear, trash at rear, exposed wires, etc.
These incidents always seem to start with noise complaints, and then the club ends up getting cited for other violations.
