In November, 2007, Miami Beach elected new mayor Matti Bower, a long-time community activist. Bower defeated nightlife supporter Simon Cruz in a nasty campaign. Quality of life concerns for Miami Beach residents are one of Bower's top priorities.

The problem was, Cruz would have buried us in high rise condos. And we all know where that leads. Matti was definitely the "lesser". Ordinances can be rolled back and crackdowns can be uncracked. But giant buildings ruining your landscape cannot (easily) be unbuilt.

Well, anyway, politics aside, it is what it is now. I mean, still and all, it isn't that hard to comply. Do not let your noise excape your club, and clean up your trash.

I've lived on the South Beach for 8 years 7 months and 10 days. It amazes me that there is not (or currently active) any Merchant or Hospitality Association that represents a majority of the "big" businesses on the beach (especially Washington Ave & Collins Ave). The businesses that are affected by statues and ordinances need to understand that this isn't the South Beach of yesterday.

"Bottles Sales" and "VIP Celebrities" will NEVER and I mean NEVER dictate LEGISLATION. The only thing that dictates LEGISLATION is LEGISLATION.

If this Association is ever created or revived I think every member should take the 100 level of the following course

Political Science
Political Science is often described as the study of who gets what, where, when and why. Discovering a proper balance between the individual, the society and its Government for civilization and human progress is paramount.

But I guess when you've been spoiled by getting away with promoting and selling "hype" & "Fluff" then substance is something hard to understand and even harder to execute.

In the words of the great Fredrick Douglas "Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did, and it never will"

The Beach can sit by and watch Brickell and the Downtown area come to life or it can stand up and.............

At this point, the Beach will watch as Brickell and Downtown wreck it's nightlife.

its pretty obvious that the HTM is right on this one. what i can plainly see, from the pr/promotions, website, not having their permits in order, getting shut down opening weekend, Aerobar is ineptitude run afoul.
