It's funny to have first hand knowledge of events and watch everyone speculate.

You may as well have posted Nah Nah Nah. Save the "I know something you don't" stuff and tell us what you know. Since Aerobar is doing their usual great job of informing the public, there's nothing left to do but speculate. However, it's not too hard to see what's going on when you look at the violations they received.

I have to agree with HTM on this one. There's no way they're going to get a CU and all the necessary permits by Friday. It really is a bad fuck-up.

And, YES, the Beach is cracking down. This has been in the works for a long time and they're not going to let up. I've been contacted a few times in the last month by the people at Dream trying to get old paperwork from Shadow because the City has dropped their legal occupant load by more than half.

Now is not the time to mess with Miami Beach by opening without permits.

Is there any reason why the City would (all of a sudden) want to do this?

There are many reasons. Some are reasonable, some are not. There are those within the City government who believe the clubs attract the wrong types of people to South Beach and make it less desireable for family tourism. There are those who believe the clubs are out of control and have no respect for the residents or other types of businesses. They hate the trash on the sidewalks every weekend. They hate the cost of all the extra police that are needed to keep everyone safe. It's a concerted effort to make it tougher on everyone so that there is a natural culling of the herd.

What happened at Aerobar is a good example. The citation they received for excessive noise was written by an officer who happened to be walking by and decided that the noise was too loud. In the past they were instructed to leave it alone unless they received complaints from residents. This change in enforcement procedures should be seen as a serious threat. These guys are just out roaming the streets looking for people to fuck with.

Actually, I kind of thought that the ordinance was written so that they could not write a citation for noise unless a resident complained. I mean, the rule is something like too loud to have a normal conversation at 100 feet. But there aren't even any residences within 100 feet of Aero Bar. I have a feeling this one will be thrown out. I wouldn't be surprised if the others were, too.

Hopefully, the bars, clubs, restaurants, and hotels will get their shit together enough to fight this unreasonable crackdown. Everybody agrees that some regulation is needed, but going over the top is bad for business and that is bad for Miami Beach. The main problem is that the hospitality business does not work together enough to secure their rights.

That's the way it USED to be, but a recent change by the City allowed CE Officers to issue violations at-will without a complaint being filed. That's how Set got their write-ups.

The sentiment from two Commissioners at the last Commission meeting was to NOT allow CE officers to issue write-ups without a complaint from a resident being filed, but the other Commissioners and the Mayor didn't agree.

In November, 2007, Miami Beach elected new mayor Matti Bower, a long-time community activist. Bower defeated nightlife supporter Simon Cruz in a nasty campaign. Quality of life concerns for Miami Beach residents are one of Bower's top priorities.

Bingo! This is all being done in the name of quality of life. Noise is noise and too loud is too loud. But this is like the tree that falls in the forest. If nobody is hurt by it why bother stop it? Because they can.

Coach, don't you believe for a moment that these citations will be thrown out. The City ain't messing around.
