The Ramonator is moving to New York.

Ramon said via FB wrote:I'm happy to say I've accepted a position in the city that never sleeps 'New York City'. This means I have to leave the only place I've ever called home the magic city of 'Miami'. This is really bittersweet for me. To my NYC friends I look forward to a new adventure in the next few weeks. This all happened very rapidly so I haven't even had the opportunity to find a place to live. So if anyone knows of a sublet/needs a roommate/renting a room please let me know. To my Miami friends we will have a series of going away parties in the next few weeks. I am beyond thankful for this opportunity and am excited to start the next chapter in my life.

Re: The Ramonator is moving to New York.

I'll sum up NYC for those who have only visited..

You wake up at 5am, it's dark.
You go to the bus station, it's dark.
You sleep, hit the tunnel waking you up, yup it's still basically dark..
You get to your office, you are typically in a windowless office, still no sign of the sun
You go to lunch, 5 months out of the year, no sun, only gray and cloudy (lunch is $20 and by the time you get down the elevator to street level you already burned 10 minutes, then you walk thru a cloud of smokers..)
You head home, it's dark
Get to your car, roll into your house 7pmish, it's full on dark
You eat, watch tv for two hours, then go to bed...

Living in the city is basically this:
Find the largest closet in your house, then consider renting that for $1800/ month.. You still won't see the sun for 5 months and your closet's rent goes up every year. Typically your closet doesn't even have walls, basically a curtain separates the "bedroom" from the rest of your closet..

Ramon, I grew up by the city, I worked in the city, unless these is an unbelievable job or you just need to do something financially, THEN STAY IN MIAMI! My friends born and raised in Miami moved to NYC for 6 figure job, they lasted 1 year...

Just watch selling NY on Bravo, even the rich people live in closets..

Good luck, but you'll be back in one year... NYC is by far the most overrated city on the planet. To vist it's awesome, to live and work it's awful.

Re: The Ramonator is moving to New York.

That sounds like someone who commutes from the Jersey suburbs, not someone who lives in the city.

It also sounds like someone who"s a pathetic office drone. If your going to live in NYC get a job in the arts or nightlife.

Ramon, summers and the dead of winter do suck in NYC so get a share house in the Hamptons for the summer and be sure to set aside enough cash to fly to Miami for the weekends during the winter.

Musicalmissionary is up there. Call him.

Funny, when I left Manhattan for Miami, all my friends said I'd be back in a year. That was a decade ago. Now they all want to move down here.

I remember the first day I moved to Ft Lauderdale, I was thinking about packing my stuff up and going back home, now I'm here a decade, I'll never leave Fla unless someone offers me stupid money to move.

Everyone of my friends who visits says the same thing, I should have moved here... People down here don't realize how much there is to do compared to up there. Sure the summers are great up there but it's so short, 16 weeks. It rains half of those...

Re: The Ramonator is moving to New York.

The transportation network in the Tri-State area is sufficiently developed enough and widespread enough that one doesn't necessarily have to live within Manhattan proper in order to enjoy the benefits of Manhattan. You can live in the outer boroughs and be in Manhattan in about a half hour, tops. Ramon's already used to about that for a commute/getting to whichever clubs he goes to in Miami. You could even live in some of the communities across the water in Jersey and still be a stone's throw away due to the PATH train and NJT.

Plus, the buses and trains run all night so you're not stranded.
