Elitist? Sure, why not, if you need to call me something. MDW attracts a lower-class of patron to our area and it causes a lot of problems, and the groups organizing the events don't seem to care. They pull the race card, just like you have been doing. My remarks aren't racist, they're based in fact and on first-hand experience plus the accurate testimonies of people I know who live on the beach. Several people I (and you) know have been robbed, harassed, and assaulted as the result of these events continuing. Listen, I'm well aware WMC, the gay party weeks, and so on have their share of problems too, but the organizers of those events at least demonstrate a willingness to deal with their problems. The MDW promoters? Not really.
I know what I'm talking about, trust me. If you want to bring out the race card, please do, it'll just show you're using the weapon of last resort whenever this topic comes up. You know, some of the more vocal opponents of these events are black and Latin, right? It's not a race issue, it's a conduct issue. If your friends conducted themselves with a measure of civility, we wouldn't be having this discussion. I just don't see the point in a lot of their activities.
Why do they need to roam around in packs on scooters, cutting off legitimate pedestrian and automotive traffic? Why do they need to scream and holler at every remotely-feminine looking object within a 500 meter radius? Why do they need to yell at someone who might not fit their "urban" aesthetic as they walk by? Why do they have to damage some of our more historic properties? Why do they have to cruise aimlessly in circles for hours on end? Why do they have to cause nothing but issues to the host nightclubs? What are they looking to prove?
I'm half-tempted to go up to Atlanta Memorial Day Weekend with two or three of my friends. In my vehicle will be three loaded handguns, unregistered of course, a bale of marijuana, and cases of booze. I'll pull the 210 in front of Peachtree Plaza, blare your buddy Lil' Wayne's greatest hits over my sound system, and smoke the weed and drink the booze with my friends while screaming at every passerby and brandishing my firearms. I'm willing to bet the residents of Atlanta would not be amused. However, they seem to have no issue coming down here and doing the same.
Fact is, I'm right, and you're wrong. You don't live on the beach or conduct business on the beach. MDW has become more trouble than it's worth. You just see all this as "The Man" putting the people down. It's far from that. I'm all about a wild time, but not at the expense of the quality of life in the area.

Anyways, I am going to leave this thread alone.
