Re: The Five Most Annoying Things About Miami

If you're in Miami and not living in Miami Beach, Midtown, Brickell or the Design district -- you're doing it wrong.

If you live in one of these areas, I can at least say of the other major cities in Florida I have actually lived -- Orlando and Tampa -- none of them even compare for more reasons than I'll bother to list unless someone wants to get into the details.

It isn't even close, especially with the surge in new quality restaurants and bars we have had here in the last five years.

If you are married with kids and just want to live a nice quiet life, just forget what I said here. Any boring retirement/sleepy Florida city will be serviceable for you. Depending on your industry I know Miami also might be a little tougher to work out when it comes to finding a good job that leaves you with enough income to dispose so you can truly enjoy everything it has to offer. If you can swing it though, it is worth it :)

I think most of these same things could probably be said in a similar fashion about NYC.

I live in none of the above and still do fine in South Florida.

I had an amazing time in Miami this past weekend. For the first time since I left, I really enjoyed it and was able to see the beauty in it. Maybe it was the wedding or maybe it was my state of mind but, seeing old friends and exploring the new Winwood were so much fun. I loved Chalk Miami Beach as well.

Re: The Five Most Annoying Things About Miami

i'm from new york, but been dating a girl down in miami for almost a year now. getting a laugh at some of these things.

the driving/traffic is pretty bad in both places. i just feel like here in NY/north NJ.. people know how to drive - they just purposely do stupid/reckless things just because. down in miami, i feel as if no one knows what's going on on the road. the body language of cars frightens me lol.

other than that, the only other thing i find amusing is how much importance people seem to put on what others think about them. you find vanity anywhere you go, of course, but everywhere i go (whether a club, or just the mall).. it seems as if people are really concerned with whether or not im impressed by them. then again, i could be just imaging this.

I love (and sometimes hate) Miami but can't wait to be there this May.

My biggest gripe is the poor customer service at some of the overpriced restaurants (Hello, Devitos) and the taxi drivers overcharging tourists, thankfully I usually rent a car and have to cab it very little when I am in town.

Oh that Devitos experience was one for the record books.
