If you live in one of these areas, I can at least say of the other major cities in Florida I have actually lived -- Orlando and Tampa -- none of them even compare for more reasons than I'll bother to list unless someone wants to get into the details.
It isn't even close, especially with the surge in new quality restaurants and bars we have had here in the last five years.
If you are married with kids and just want to live a nice quiet life, just forget what I said here. Any boring retirement/sleepy Florida city will be serviceable for you. Depending on your industry I know Miami also might be a little tougher to work out when it comes to finding a good job that leaves you with enough income to dispose so you can truly enjoy everything it has to offer. If you can swing it though, it is worth it
I think most of these same things could probably be said in a similar fashion about NYC.
